About Leo

I have been a photographer since 1970 and started with B&W photos that I processed and printed myself. I thought I was pretty decent at the time until I attended a workshop with Minor White in Cambridge, MA in 1973 and experienced what it was like to have one of my idols totally trash my portfolio. Afterwards, I studied the work of Ansel Adams, immersed myself in Zone theory and started using grades 1 and 2 paper (rather than my favorite grades 4, 5 and 6). The result was a new portfolio with more tonal gradations, tighter compositions and more consistent content. Unfortunately, Minor died before I had a chance to go back and show him how much he had helped me to improve my images.

Now, thirty-five years later, I am shooting digital (Canon EOS 5D), mostly color (which I have learned to appreciate) and display and sell many of my images in a gallery in Key West. I've found that the most important factor in my continuing journey to improve the images I create has been the well-thought and well-intentioned critique of others - my wife, my kids, local artists, other photographers and anyone I could show my portfolio to. I'm excited to have discovered RadiantVista and am looking forward to having a few of my images critiqued by Craig and the other members.
